Mom,
I love being a missionary!! Sometimes it is hard and cold and rainy (and by sometimes I mean all the time) but there is honestly no better work I could be doing right now!! Moves were this week. Sister Palmer left me :( Not too happy about that! She was an amazing companion, and one transfer just wasn't enough!! Although, I am looking forward to my new comp Sister McOmber!
Because Sister Palmer was leaving, we spent some time saying goodbye this week. I find it so strange how you can come to love people so fast on a mission, and then just like that, you have to leave them!! It was a bit heartbreaking!!
This week was also Remembrance Sunday. they do a wonderful job of honoring and remembering those who lost their lives in war. We heard bagpipes all day!!! It was actually really cool!
Nothing too interesting happened this week... oh wait! Right as I wrote that, I remembered something interesting you'll love this mom!
So, it was a Thursday evening and we had just finished eating at a member's home. We had gotten a referral earlier that week, so we decided we would drop by and see if they were actually interested. So, we drove over to this home and Sister Palmer and I were talking about what we should say when we get to the door (we both haven't been chapping in forever and kinda forgot how to do it...) when we got there the neighbors were looking at us very strange...we thought it was odd, but didn't think too much of it. We then went up to the door and rang the bell. An old man answered, and here is what happens
S. Palmer: Hi are you Peter?
Old Man: Yes...
S. Palmer: Peter Brown?
Old Man: (face goes white) No.. No.. how did you get my address.
S. Kotter: Uhm, we were told you would want to hear a message about Jesus Christ
Old Man: Come in, come in now. I have to call the police... you'll have to wait here until they come.
Sister Palmer and I looking at each other so confused, walk into the home.....
He proceeds to call the police, and the neighbors come over to try to explain to us what was happening.
It turns out that this man had been getting mean jokes played on him and his wife for over a year now... and apparently someone thought that sending missionaries was the meanest joke of all. We sit and wait for the police to come so we can explain what happened. It was the biggest waste of time ever!!! But it did keep us out of the cold for that night.
Life in Scotland never has a dull moment. It's funny because the things I used to find weird or strange are just normal now!
Well, I hope your week is fantastic!!! I love you tons!!
Sister Kotter :)
